Dr Ian Loke is a highly experienced Consultant Cardiologist. He has been working as a full-time NHS consultant for over 15 years and was appointed to the University Hospitals of Leicester in 2007. Over this time, Dr Loke has overseen the development of the heart failure service in Leicester from a single-handed operation to one of the largest integrated teams in the UK.

He is passionate about caring for patients and believes in a comprehensive and compassionate approach. Dr Loke is skilled at using point of care ultrasound, which enables him to make a detailed clinical assessment of all patients at the bedside. Managing complex heart failure requires experience in all areas of cardiology such as coronary artery disease, hypertension and management of arrhythmias, as well as non-cardiac areas such as renal medicine and lung disease.

Dr Loke pioneered one of the UK's first clinic's for urgent heart failure cases, a decade ago. This has been highly commended by the European Society of Cardiology and it continues to be one of the country's most in-demand clinics. He has extensive experience treating heart failure patients and can provide a thorough assessment of breathless patients to ensure prompt diagnosis and expert treatment. This may include prescription medication, device therapy or surgical intervention as required.

In addition to his very busy outpatient commitment, Dr Loke also implants cardiac devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators. Over the years, he has consistently been one of the top 5 implanting cardiologists in the UK by volume. In just three years (2017 to 2020), he performed over 740 pacemaker procedures - making him one of the top three consultants in the UK for this type of procedure.

Dr Loke has participated in many national and international conferences. He is also on the education committee for the British Society for Heart Failure.
